OceanCliff Newport, RI : Leanne and Tom’s Wedding

On May 12th 2013, a beautiful and sunny Mother’s Day, two new pharmacists decided to fill their prescription for love and get married!  Leanne and Thomas Bertha chose the stunning OceanCliff Resort and Hotel on Newport’s scenic Ocean Drive for both their ceremony and reception.

My assistant David Van Buren and I headed to OceanCliff to photograph the ladies. The gentleman soon followed after getting ready at Middletown’s Howard Johnson Hotel.   This modern couple threw tradition to the wind by deciding to see each other before the ceremony, and we were there to capture this special moment. As his bride walked towards him and everyone counted to three, he turned around and got his first glance of his beloved wife to be. We then headed out with Leanne, Thomas and the bridal party to take some gorgeous portraits at some of Newport’s best known tourist spots: the Cliff Walk and Brenton Point.  We even got some great shots of the couple at a Del’s Lemonade truck, a Rhode Island staple.

Back to OceanCliff we went for a touching ceremony beside sparkling Narragansett Bay, followed by an energized reception.   Guest found place cards in the form of “medicine bottles”, playfully filled with salt water taffy.  They were also encouraged to take photos in a photo booth that came with all kinds of silly props.  A DJ from Music Mixers Entertainment kept the tunes flowing and the dance floor filled throughout the evening.

We snuck away a few times with the new Mr. and Mrs. Bertha to take some amazing photos in and around the venue and some truly glorious sunset shots.  And then, before I knew it, it was David’s and my time to go.  A special thank you to Leanne and Thomas for choosing me as their photographer, it was a true pleasure to be a part of your day!
